Dr. Rodman is so gentle
My second time with Dr. Rodman and getting Botox. She is so gentle and she took the time to inform me about all my options. The ladies at her front desk are funny and helpful. I will be seeing them in 3 months when it’s time to repeat my treatment!!!

What are Neurotoxins?

Neurotoxins are FDA approved to promote relaxation of the muscles that cause wrinkles in areas such as the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes. They block the signal from nerves that move certain facial muscles. Without the movement of the muscles, the skin over them is smooth and the wrinkles are less prominent.

Why is it important to have Neurotoxins injected by a certified injector or a physician?

Off-label use of neurotoxin can be used to treat a gummy smile, give the lip a more prominent appearance (lip flip), decrease mild frown lines, treat large jaw muscles (masseter), and create a brow lift. This is why it is imperative to do your research before scheduling an appointment with anyone who is not a certified injector or physician. Dr. Regina Rodman, a board-certified facial plastic surgeon, is not only an expert in surgical procedures, but she is also an expert in injectables and fillers.

Neurotoxins For Excessive Sweating

Neurotoxins can also aid in the reduction of hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) in areas such as the hands and underarms.

Neurotoxins For Facial Spasm (Bell’s Palsy)

Lastly, neurotoxin can be used to treat facial spasm of unknown reason or as a result of Bell’s Palsy. Bell’s Palsy is a condition caused by a virus that leaves one side of the face weak or paralyzed. Usually, it will improve over time but sometimes the nerves get mixed up during the healing process. These patients often complain that their eyes close when they smile or move their mouth.

They may also have tightness on one side of the face or neck that can cause discomfort. Dr. Rodman and her nurse injector can also balance the unaffected side to more closely match the weak side.

How long do Neurotoxins last?

Neurotoxins last for approximately 3-6 months, and the procedure takes 30 minutes in the office. There is no downtime and normal activities can be resumed immediately.

Botox: Botox is the most widely known neurotoxin because it has been around the longest. You may see results as soon as 3 days after you injection, and full effect will take place approximately 10-14 days.

Dysport: Dysport is a smaller molecule and will spread more than botox, therefore it can create a softer appearance. It will kick in after 3-5 days post injection, therefore it’s full effect is quicker than Botox.
