All About Microneedling
Day 1 – 8 Photos After Microneedling with PRP Treatment
Question and answer:
What exactly is microneedling?
It’s a pen with a disposable needle head that creates micro injury on the skin. It triggers the body to produce new healthy and collagen rich skin! It can be used alone or with platelet rich plasma (PRP) to further enhance collagen production and increase healing time.
What are other names for microneedling?
Collagen Pin, Skin Pen, Vampire facial, dermapen, micropen, collagen induction therapy. ALL THE SAME THING.
What can microneedling be used to treat?
Several things! It can help decrease pore size, decrease acne scarring, treat hyperpigmentation, reduce fine lines or wrinkles, produce a healthy skin glow.
It sounds painful, does it hurt?
There is actually little to no pain involved because your skin is numbed with a prescription strength lidocaine combination cream. It will be applied 30 minutes prior to starting the procedure.
I’ve seen pictures where people’s faces are bloody, will I look like that?
A small amount of blood will be produced with the small needles. That is how your nurse knows how much micro injury she has created for you. You will not actively bleed and will not leave with any blood on your face.
How long does the procedure take?
The whole appointment is around 1 hour. This includes the numbing for 30 minutes prior.
Is there downtime?
You will leave with your face red and it will remain for the remainder of the day. The following day your face will be pink and possibly flaky. You will want to avoid sweating (exercising) and wearing makeup for 1 day after the procedure.
What are things I should avoid prior or after the procedure?
Before your procedure, you will want to avoid things that can potentially increase bleeding. If you take any kind of blood thinner medication, you will need to discuss with your physician if you can avoid this the day prior to your procedure. Other medications to avoid the day prior are Aspirin/Advil/Ibuprofen/Motrin or any type of NSAID. You can take Tylenol. You will also want to avoid alcohol consumption for one day prior. After your procedure, you will want to avoid sweating or wearing makeup for 24 hours. When you can sweat or wear makeup you will need to make sure you wash your face well. You may use ice the day after the procedure if you experience any swelling.
How many treatments will I need and how often?
Face Forward recommends a minimum of 3 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Then 3-4 treatments per year for maintenance. If you are correctly deep acne scarring, then you may need more than the initial 3 treatments.
How much does it cost?
Generally the cost is $300-$500 per treatment. As we recommend 3-5 treatments, Face Forward offers discounted pricing when you purchase a package of 3 or more. With a purchase of 3 or more treatments, patients also get a complete post procedure skin care kit, valued at $250.
